24th June: A new definition of hubris

51.7% voted to leave.  I’m still numb.  I’ve been very fortunate to never have a parent, sibling or good friend die.  I’ve never been massively, lastingly, let down either.   Perhaps I’m being melodramatic but this is how I’ve been feeling today.  Very, very sad.  Sad that so many of us don’t understand half the country; sad that Cameron had the ego to presume his referendum would give him a positive, courageous legacy; sad that so many people will now feel rejected, isolated and unwanted.  When I teach the word ‘hubris’ to future students I will cite Cameron.
